After a successful launch last year, the Women in Drupal Award 2023 is being organised for the second time. The nomination period runs until 5 September 2023, and the award will be presented on 17 October at this year's DrupalCon conference in Lille.
The background to the award, which is presented by FFW and the Drupal Association, is the continuing underrepresentation of women in the IT industry. According to statistics, only 25 to 30 percent of their employees are female. Official figures for the Drupal community are not available. However, it suggests that female developers and other experts are in the minority.
For this reason, the Women in Drupal Award aims to increase the visibility and appreciation of women in the Drupal community and to highlight their achievements and contributions beyond their daily work. It aims to spotlight those women who have realised remarkable projects in the context of Drupal and serve as an inspiration to future generations of women in the IT industry.
Talent nominations are open in the following categories, as they were last year:
Define: Candidates working on strategy and planning of innovative Drupal projects are to be nominated in the Define category. Relevant is the work on software projects as well as the commitment to the Drupal community.
Build: This is the place for experts with a hands-on mentality and doers. These can be developers, architects or HR specialists looking for talent to build an innovative Drupal agency. Also eligible for nomination are community members who contribute to the creation of an engaged Drupal network.
Scale: Women involved in platform or business expansion should be considered as candidates for the Scale award. This category is equally for female developers, sales talent and consultants.
Nominations are open to all, and any person nominated has the opportunity to win the award. In particular, nominations are welcomed for emerging talent who are just starting their careers in the Drupal community.
Submissions are only open via the official website. Proposed nominees will need a Drupal profile. The judging panel for this year's Drupal Awards will be made up of members of the Drupal Association, last year's winners and representation from FFW. It consists of:
- Cristina Chumillas - Winner of the Define category of the 2022 Award
- Surabhi Gokte - Winner of the Build Category 2022
- Stella Power - Winner of the Scale Category 2022 and CEO & Founder of Annertech
- Baddy Sonja Breidert - CEO and Co-Founder of 1xINTERNET & Board Chair at Drupal Association, Frankfurt
- Kitt Ralkov - Head of HR & Experience, FFW Europe
The winners of the Women in Drupal Awards 2023 will be honoured at a ceremony on 17 October at the Grand Palais in Lille. In addition to an attractive trophy and the public award ceremony, the winners can expect prize money.
We are very pleased that the new award format is so well received within the framework of the DrupalCon developer conference and are proud to be able to continue our commitment in 2023.
